RJ Rowley Reserve, Rye

Rye Football Club’s senior team emphatically defeated rivals Sorrento by 30 points at RJ Rowley Reserve, Rye, earlier today. Final scores Rye 15-11-101 def Sorrento 10-11-71.

Coach Ben Holmes was a standout in attack, with strong marking and sound conversions to be the leading goal scorer for Rye. Ben Winters-Kerr was his usual self, exerting strength over the ball and devil-may-care attitude to self preservation. Ryan Semmel showed why he was such an important pick up for Rye in the off season, with trademark bursts from the centre looking very, very much like Port Adelaide’s Travis Boak.

Matt Dunn played his best game of the season, and was part of a very cohesive back line, with Dunn and assistant coach Leigh Morse teaming up many times to break lines. Rye’s tall brigade led by Chris Gleeson and Jye Lloyd were outstanding again.

Matt Macindoe played an important linking game again, presenting for numerous marking competitions throughout the game.

Skipper Rhett Sutton dominated the ruck and played more like a rover again today, and was a lethal goal kicker when in his super-human range.
